Beauty Amidst Chaos

I realize that I take quite a few sunset pictures and hopefully those who venture regularly into my site don’t tire of repetition. As I see it, there is no repetition as each sunset is phenomenally different in so many ways. Another reason for my fascination with them is that these photos are typically posted without any retouching – probably only just a bit of cropping to show just the parts that I want. That is true of this image as well with the exception of the seagull. The gull was captured in a photo I took only a second or two after this one, but I didn’t have the correct composition for that shot. So, I spent just a couple minutes putting the bird into this shot right where it had appeared in the second shot. The trail across the sky had, presumably, been left by a jet heading to the U.S. from Toronto several minutes earlier. I thought it was pretty amazing how that trail was creating shadows behind/above it as the sun headed for the horizon.

This image was captured from the small parking lot overlooking Wrights Landing in Oswego, NY (43.462074, -76.519920). I was wandering around on my motorcycle as I often do and found myself in the right place at the right time. The sunset was fascinating enough that a minivan full of people (about 10) also stopped for the view. Like clowns piling out of the clown car at the circus, they excitedly jumped out and spent quite a bit of time taking pictures of the sunset, of each other standing in front of the sunset, and of pairs/couples standing in front of the sunset. They were all speaking Spanish so I don’t know what they were saying, mercifully having forgotten that part of my high school experience. Regardless, they were certainly having a good time and were just as impressed as I with another one of Oswego’s daily gifts.
