End Of The Day

Today is the solstice. It is a small comfort for me as it suggests that we are moving toward Spring. The reality, however, is that the distance between here and there is profound. The next several months are always the most difficult. They bring the most cold, the most snow, the most clouds, the most freezing rain, and the least amount of sun.

This solstice, while cold, did bring some sun. During a quick walk between the main BOCES building and the former horse barn my team occupies, I was able to grab a couple quick iPhone images of these places as the sun gave us what it had left for the day.

Policies…

image2091448550.jpgThe work of updating policies continues. As the picture shows, we have made progress but there is much more to do. We are, however, motivated to push through this since two full days of this is plenty!

It has been good to see everyone working as a team. There have been moments of debate, but that is what it is all about. The net result is clearly going to be relevant and current policies for the organization.

Could Be A Long One…

image642937255.jpgToday and tomorrow are scheduled to be spent in full-day meetings. The organization needs to have all of our policy manuals updated and so this time has been carved out to complete that activity. Several of us will be spending these days reviewing all of our suggested edits to this massive collection of documents and wrapping it into a final version.

Fortunately, the process is being facilitated with SharePoint and the tracking changes feature of Microsoft Word. We have been able to work at our own time, pace and location to prepare for today. Today and tomorrow should be as easy as right-clicking through the files and accepting or rejecting the edits.

Our location (pictured) is without a view of the beautiful sunlight that is filling Mexico this morning. I suspect I will have to take a few breaks in the action to catch a view of it and energize my spirit.

Board of Education

image1777289479.jpgToday was a very full day of meetings and activities. Unusually, those things did not curtail it from also being a very productive day. The highlight of the day was time spent working with one of my customers. They are actually thinking about taking advantage of BOCES services that will allow them to be more efficient and effective in the year ahead. That makes great sense in these very uncertain financial times.

The downside of the day was that a presentation I had spent quality time creating has been postponed (sound familiar mja?). I could have used the time for so many other things. I will eventually get to deliver it, but not for at least a month.

Tomorrow is another very full day and tonight will be spent working on my other business activities. That work begins following the meeting of the Board of Education (pictured and currently in progress).

Creative Commons…

Everyone should be using Creative Commons for all of their work. Take a few minutes to watch their video and then consider how you might embrace this for your own projects.

You can visit the Creative Commons web site for more information.
